The Best Way to Learn To Speak French? Years of Schooling or…?

You are at a crossroads. You need to learn how to speak French. Maybe your job requires it, or maybe you just want to travel to France, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada – or any of over 60 nations that speak French worldwide!

Whatever your reason, you need to be able to speak French fluently with the locals, if you really want to experience the richness of the French culture and language.

The Wrong Way to Learn French

Too many people learn to speak ‘technically correct’ French in grade school and some right on through university – just like I did. It seems to take forever, and when you finally complete your French schooling, you never really feel you could hold your own in an ‘everyday’ conversation with a true Francophone.

Why? Because, during all your French lessons, you were effectively isolated from a real ‘understanding’ of the French culture and how the language works.

I have been to both Paris, France, Quebec city and Montreal in Canada. I can tell you from personal experience how much I regretted the strictly ‘technical’ schooling I received in the French language.

My First Conversations With Real Francophones

Upon arrival in those cities, I immediately recognized the shortcomings of my education. Time and again, I made embarrassing mistakes in simple French diction because I did not understand the cultural references of what I had just said. On many occasions, a chuckle or sneer from a French vendor or waiter was followed by an abrupt comment that does not bear repeating.

Can you avoid a similar embarrassing faux pas (false step) during your next French conversation? My answer is an emphatic oui (yes)!!

Speak French Like the Locals

Clearly, French lessons from a school is not the best way to learn how to speak French. If you want to truly experience the richness of many French cultures, and avoid those embarrassing moments, then make the right decision. Choose to learn French properly – either online or by CD!

Here you get to interact with actual French speakers and YOU control your own pace! The conversations you will hear and take part in cover everything that you need to know to become part of a French-speaking community.

From introducing yourself… to getting help in an emergency… ordering correctly at a French restaurant or negotiating with that French vendor… you can converse in French with all of them.

Remember, French people just love it when tourists, travelers and business people speak French to them!
