Upon arrival in those cities, I immediately recognized the shortcomings of my education. Time and again, I made embarrassing mistakes in simple French diction because I did not understand the cultural references of what I had just said. On many occasions, a chuckle or sneer from a French vendor or waiter was followed by an abrupt comment that does not bear repeating.

Can you avoid a similar embarrassing faux pas (false step) during your next French conversation? My answer is an emphatic oui (yes)!!
